“Photography and the World of Work” photo contest: How industry interacts with landscape and social life

The 2019 edition of the photo contest was presented on April 2, 2019, in the preconsiliare hall of the Livorno City Council. The Carlo Laviosa Foundation and the Municipality of Livorno, in collaboration with Fotoclub Nove, a FIAF 2283 (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations) affiliated club, and the DeFactory association, are promoting the second edition of the “Photography and the World of Work” competition.
The 2019 edition has the theme “How industry interacts with landscape and social life.”
Participants are required to submit a portfolio of five images.
The competition will conclude with an exhibition to be held in Livorno at one of the civic museum and cultural venues in September 2019.
On that occasion, the portfolios selected by the jury will be exhibited.
The first three selected will get a prize of 1,000 euros each, while the fourth and fifth will get a mention. Awardees and those mentioned will have the opportunity to exhibit at the Paris Photo Off fair, as part of the ImageNation exhibition, curated by DeFactory Cultural Association, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8 to Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, which is the month Paris dedicates to photography. Registration for the competition has a cost of 20 euros.
For FIAF members, the cost is 15 euros.
The deadline to apply for the photo contest through the Carlo Laviosa Foundation website is July 15, 2019.
“Recounting the industrial landscape does not only mean portraying the horrors that bad industry caused,” says Carlo Laviosa Foundation artistic director Serafino Fasulo, “Work, the birth of neighborhoods, changes in customs, resources, new roads, are just a few examples of the dynamics that the birth of industry brought about. The contest is aimed at professionals and non-professionals, and photographers from any country. In the last edition, dedicated to boatyards, images came from Tunisia and India. This year we hope for an even wider international participation, also due to the many contacts made with realities in the Mediterranean area and the partnership signed between the Carlo Laviosa Foundation and the Association Forum Hermaea El Haouaria, the association of the Tunisian city that promotes an important photography festival.”
For information: https://fondazionelaviosa.com/attivita/come-lindustria-interagisce-con-il-paesaggio-e-la-vita-sociale/ – serafino.fasulo@laviosa.com — The Carlo Laviosa Foundation has always considered the world of work a field of analysis of fundamental importance for understanding social dynamics and disparities in conditions between countries.
Talking about work means reflecting on the primary energy that humanity has at its disposal and on the concept of democracy, and to do so the Foundation has chosen a language that for about 150 years has been a witness and archive of man’s actions and the transformations of the planet: photography.
This choice has generated a project, “Photography and the World of Work,” shared by the Municipal Administration of Livorno, which is divided into exhibition, production and educational moments and also a competition.
