The Carlo Laviosa Foundation brings to Livorno the exhibition “Life’s a Beach” by Martin Parr, a giant of contemporary photography and renowned internationally for having transformed photo-journalism into an art through his very original view point and a heightened use of colour.

Thanks to the Foundation’s collaboration with the Municipality of the Comune di Livorno the exhibition will be held at the Museo Civico Giovanni Fattori – Granai di Villa Mimbelli (via San Jacopo in Acquaviva, 65) Livorno from 25th September to 12th December 2021.

Serafino Fasulo, exhibition curator explains – “Martin Parr is a reporter of the everyday, a labourer of observation, photographing the habits and customs that reveal the human soul and unmasking the clichés behind which triviality, the grotesque and decayed culture are often hidden. He is capable of seeing the things we have become dependent on, putting us in front of a looking glass in which we can see the reflection of an image that is far from flattering.
He is able to identify the important points for reflection on the human condition with a sense of humour touching on the sarcastic, confronting us for once, not with the sins of others but with our own”.

56 of Parr’s photographs are on show at the Granai di Villa Mimbelli in Livorno.

Photographer with the prestigious photo agency Magnum in Paris, Parr’s images disclose the reality of bathers in their free-time; stretched out in the sunshine and “exposed” in their swimwear as they relax.

The exhibition “Life’s a Beach” means a lot to Livorno, the city whose relationship with the sea and the seaside is its “raison d’ être”.

Life’s a beach or the beach is life – declared Giovanni Laviosa, president of the Carlo Laviosa Foundation – if humans tend towards creating their own communities, made up of individuals who resemble one another, they could also do so on the beach. Thank you to Martin Parr for getting us thinking by showing us the things we often don’t see.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on 25th September at 6 pm and visiting will be free for the occasion.
